This talk will explore what collecting reveals about the effective powers of art and its role in our personal and cultural self-definition.

What do painted portraits and LinkedIn headshots have in common? This talk will explore how antiquarians and archaeologists represent their credentials through visual media. By tracing the emergence of classical archaeology and ancient art connoisseurship as professions, this lecture examines the shared motifs and gestures which form this visual language of expertise.

Off The Finesse
NEW YORK - Headline, founded in Vancouver, Canada, will launch its first US exhibition at The Border Brooklyn on Friday, February 11th. Exhibiting wearable art alongside photography, Off The Finesse highlights the stories and environments of artists and change-makers in our community to explore the skilful process of cultivating oneself. In examining the intimacies of portraiture, audience members are invited to reflect upon the ways creative pursuits can become tools of action in service of authenticity and the realization of one's potentialities. Portraits include Maya Aristimuño, Founder of Maristi; Cameron Andre, Multidisciplinary Artist; Alena Rose, Body Advocate & Designer; and Aashna Agarwal, Journalist.

Steph Varasteh: Internal Landscapes
In Stephanie Nelia Varasteh's new body of work, SOMA, the artist captures moments of pure authenticity. Varasteh explores how we relate to the soma, body, and the pathways in which we interact with the natural elements that surround us. Varasteh's images explore the internal landscapes that give us individuality, highlighting how movement can grant us agency over our emotions and actions. Themes of love, grief, anger, and betrayal manifest within the photographer's images as she illuminates the intimate felt spaces between skin, bone, and the body's soft tissues, transporting audiences into a reflective and vulnerable state of humanness.

GIILLIAN HAIGH: READABILITY
Born in Calgary Alberta, Gillian Haigh is a visual artist based in Vancouver, BC in the unceded traditional land of xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
Gillian holds a BFA from Emily Carr University and her work has been featured in exhibitions across Canada including Trapp Projects (2020), The Morris & Helen Belkin Gallery (2019), and an solo show at the Port Moody Arts Centre in May 2021.

Authentic Self: A New Equilibrium
VANCOUVER - Headline, a next-generation nomadic art gallery, is set to launch in Vancouver's South Granville Art District. Founded by Misa Yamaoka, 19, the gallery's first exhibition, Authentic Self: A New Equilibrium, will open to the public Saturday, July 3rd. Featuring an impressive set of female artists, the space envelops audiences, allowing viewers to interact with installations, and experience the textural qualities of the pieces - a much-needed change after interacting through screens for so long.
